Default Thread views - the top 5

I've noticed an increasing interest and awareness in Russian military watches over the past year, with a correlation in prices.

Today a thread started up about Strelas so I posted a link to the older thread about Czech issued 3017s here and I am monitoring the hits. Then I noticed how some threads had significantly higher views than others. Here are the top 5:

    1. CWC SBS - 1,362
    2. Zlatoust diver - 725
    3. Strela - 568
    4. Sinn EZM - 522
    5. Heuer Bund - 460

Sure, the CWC thread is older and I haven't tried to rationalise age of thread with number of views. If you did, I suspect that the Zlatoust would be number 1. Curious thing is, I've received unsolicited PMs from keen buyers for all of these watches (can't really count the Sinn as I sold that within a week to fund a Benrus Type II).

Any more observations or surprises? Do you think these figures represent popularity and/or desirability or are the Russian watches just attracting interest because they are unusual?

    Regards

    Jon'.

Personally I think it is likely to be because you have done such an excellent job of presenting the Russians in a coherent bunch of posts in the same place, easily accessible (and ultimately google-able - Al's site scores very well on that). I think you're fast becoming a go-to reference on this rather more esorteric corner of mil-watch collecting.

Very kind of you to say so, Dave. The funny thing is that I haven't really started yet - almost all the photos have been the sellers' - this year I plan to take some decent photos and I have some surprises too, not only some interesting and generally unknown info' but also some really rare watches, one in particular which I don't believe anyone even knows exists in issued form - lucky I bought that Soviet sub phone as a photo prop!

We may not have as many members, nor as many "Please value this rare mil watch..." threads, as some other Forums but we certainly make up for it with well-reasoned, well-researched, well-connected and well-photographed items! Looking forward to the next batch of NSN releases.

    Default Zlatousts going crazy

We have had nearly 400 views of the Zlatoust thread in just five days! Plus we have a new Zlatoust-owning member joining ATG. Does anyone know what's going on? Is it because of a link somewhere? If so, I would be intrigued to know where.

    Regards

    Jon'.

    I wonder why.

Maybe it's because the post is ranked 13th in the google result of "Zlatoust diver".

Oh, I forgot to add, you can search which sites link back to that post too. (only 3 sites, 1 from the ATG main forum, 1 from MWF and 1 from a Spainish forum

Well, the Zlatoust thread has flown off into the sunset today. It was equal to the much older CWC SBS thread in numbers of views at lunchtime but it's streaked away, currently receiving over 100 views per day this last week alone. Is there something going on I don't know about? The Czech issued Strela thread is also attracting a lot of attention.

I will be posting some more photos of the Zlatoust and my new Czech issued Strela and luminous white dial Poljot 3017s (ultra rare - found in "Czechoslovakia" and never seen before) very soon.

    Regards

    Jon'.

Views on that Zlatoust thread are over 4,000 now (it was 725 two weeks ago!). Is that a record yet for views on an ATG thread?

Well I just linked it from WUS-DWF, so it may take off again!

Although I bought my Zlatoust-like diver 7 years ago and found it silly and unwearable, I never got over wanting to find a genuine one. Now after seeing the photos with compass and depth gauge, my interest is greater than ever! There's no doubt it's bad for prices. I learned a few years ago to get everything I wanted (good nick, variants, accessories, box, etc.) in a watch before I start posting about it on the forums.

There are watches I bought two years ago that I haven't posted a single photo of yet!
    Cheers all, Colin

Colin, please leave the link! Spread the word...

The Zlatousts are about but they have gathered quite a bit of momentum over the past year or so and are creeping up in price.

Can you pm me about those watches you haven't posted yet?!

    Regards

    Jon'.
