Default Dave had it, Martin had it..... now I've gotten it....

    Wittnauer Valjoux .71

Late 40's/50's early 3 register chronograph.

Light and ticks very loud... lovely aging and a piece of history.

This must be the nearest thing to a forum pass-round watch that the ATG forum has!
I was glad I took a punt on that and bought it from the US. It is a very nice little watch, and the blued hands are lovely.
I still do a bit of a search for these on the basis that I might be able to repeat my luck and find another example, but nothing has come up so far.

    This one comes pretty close

    Wittnauer Auction

But is only two register, and has simple linear hands.

Interestingly, the one above has the same looking strap as your one has Al (at least it did when I had it). Could they be original?

    cheers

That watch is a bargain, valjoux 23 I think, the case is brushed badly which always looks crap in photos but the dial is good and if you wanted an elegant watch to wear for dinner with your wife you could look 'no further' I really wanted a 'gold' one but the gold ones are always too small!

Dunno... mine cam on a blue leather strap. Martin? you still got it....?

    Cool classic watch...
Glad it's gone to another good home.

The aged dial and those blued steel hands that change in the light, sometimes black then blue again. I think the case is used by other makers of that period.
I was experimenting with the strap, you were right to change it...

Default I missed having one in the box - so

I have just found another one, slightly later, but still lovely

Found in the states again, where nobody seems to love them. The high-priced ones hang around like a bad smell, and some dealers put them on at very attractive BiN prices. These have to be one of my preferred bargain brands on the older scale. They were a very impressive brand in this era, before they seemed to concentrate on ladies watches (I think the owner died and his wife took over the company). Much under-rated imho. Have a look at the "blast-off from the past" post in the classic posts section.

    Here is the movement

    Pristine!

I think with some WABI removal from the case and a new crystal, this one could be really lovely. Proper pushers, large crown, stainless case, screwback, multi-colour dial - what's not to love?

    Cheers
