I voted for him. I am not in the majority as a military man, though! Most military voted for McCain. But I feel he is the best person to lead us into the future. He has his work cut out for him.

Default Very good in my opinion.

I guess the thread on EOT got a bit dicey. Maybe it was my "I'm glad the majority of people didn't believe the lies, subterfuge and fear-mongering" that got it deleted.

My nephew and his wife, a Navy Lt. Commander and a DOJ attorney, both seemed to be pro-Obama even though they wouldn't say as much. (Possibly for fear of ridicule.)

I think Obama's campaign was incredibly well run and clean. He didn't lower himself to the personal attacks and smears that the McCain campaign did. I'm sure if he had you would have heard about Ms. Palin's witch-hunting minister who she credits with helping her get elected and McCain's various questionable personal associations.

The fear mongering continues today. I was listening to the radio and the supposedly non-partisan talk show host was trolling for calls saying that Obama was looking at "Rahim Emanuel" to be his chief of staff...... Uhwhaaaa? It's Rahm Emanuel. The insinuation of course was that he's Arabic. It was obviously meant to stir up more nut-jobs. I called and corrected him to tell him that Emanuel is an Orthodox Jew but he hung up on me before I finished my sentence.

    Just my 3 cents.

    God bless America.

How did a country with so much 'clarity' allow itself to be so manipulated so obviously!

Here there is not so much clarity but you can at least tell anyone ' waht you really think'.

Let's see how things go.... but it can only get better!

No problem posting here but i do understand what Tyler was saying....

Default I missed the EOT thread

but I can imagine the gist of it.
From my point of view I think it's great.
Whether the US likes it or not, they have a role in the world that requires more subtlety and finesse than maybe has been seen in recent years. The USA's image abroad has been battered.
Can Obama restore some the USA's standing? I hope so.
It will be a tough course to balance the needs to "fix" the home country, and fix the image for the rest of us. I wish him luck.
The fact that the voter turnout was so high for a Presidential election is an encouraging sign that people want to think about the job a bit more.
Just my 2c (about US 1.3c)

I think I'm suffering from over exposure to the US election.
It's a bit like american football, complicated and goes on too long....

Seriously though, I hope that the change of President has a positive effect on the US and the world in general. He has a hell of a job ahead of him, Iraq, Afghanistan and the banking melt down to contend with. Ahead are some hard decisions and he has to make them. Not worrying wether it makes him unpopular or not.

Our own system here in the UK swings from one major party to the other everytime people have enough and think it's time for change.

Only time will tell if this one works out...

Without being too European about this, I can only think that the result is a good thing.

Apart from anything else, the fact that the lipstick-wearing, gun-toting creationist called Palin is kept well away from the reins of power has to be a good thing.

And Obama seems to be a sensible and impressive man. Time will tell whether the appalling deck of cards he has been dealt (2 wars, financial meltdown, Russia playing up and the planet gently melting) can be turned into a winning hand. I wish him well, he certainly seems to have the sense and poise to do the job well.

    Cheers

What you mean the world wasn't created in six days....
Don't get me started on that...

America has a close link between religion and politics. At least Blair left it until he was out of office to admit he was a catholic.
