    Default Bezels...

...why are the first 15mins of a dive watch bezel (quite often) coloured?

Why not the last 15 mins? Esp as most dives, assuming a max depth of 30m and 200 Bar of air, tend to end, in my experience on / around the 40-45 min mark - admittedly usually due to a fellow diver's air consumption more than anything else!

    So. Why? What's the point?

And why don't we have more countdown bezels too - could you have one that you could set to the expected dive time?

Thinking out loud here. So please excuse my ramblings!

    Mat,
I was told many years ago, that this stemmed from a manufacturing mix up by one of the leading manufacturers of the time, which has stuck. The original plan was for a count-down bezel with the last 15 - 20 mins highlighted (which makes more sense) but it was changed pre-production by someone who didn't dive and thought the count-down design was a mistake. It sounds plausible, but I've no idea if its true.

All this gets me thinking. I'm sure its proably been done before, but I wonder if we should have a go at designing our own "virtual" dive watch. What do you think?

Cheers mate. Virtual dive watch sounds like a plan!

Would be interesting to do this here, given so many have been done it recently elsewhere. I'e often thought that ATG was a bit "different" (Anyone remember the Arkangel Project watch? ) so will be very interested to see the results.

Should we run a seperate thread, or collate stuff here?
