    Default FS: Junghans Mega 1

For those that don't know the Junghans Mega 1 it was the worlds first radio-controlled wrist watch. Here's some info from the National Maritime Museum's site:

The Junghans 'Mega 1' wristwatch, introduced in 1990, was the world's first radio-controlled wristwatch. An antenna buried in the strap receives a long-wave radio signal every morning broadcast on 77.5 KHz (call-sign DCF) from Mainflingen, Frankfurt, carrying time information from Germany's national atomic clocks at Braunschweig. These radio transmissions automatically set the watch right. Similar watches and clocks are made which receive the UK's national time signal broadcast from Rugby, originating from the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington.

The watch works well but the plated case is scratched as is the crystal. It looks presentable on the wrist but please don't buy this expecting it to be mint, it isn't, as hopefully the pics will show. It has its original strap which has an antennae built in. It's obviously shows signs of wear but there's plenty of life left in it. You can still get replacement straps from German ebay although they are around 50. Oh and my example comes complete with its original box and instruction manual.

    Dimensions:
    Width 33mm
    Lug to lug 44mm
    Thickness 10mm

I gather these are becoming quite the collectors piece these days as they were a ground braking technology and pretty unusual design.

    Some quick snaps

Asking 75 for this inc RMSD, not bad for a piece of horological history. Cash, cheque, bank transfer and Paypal (+4% unless sent as a gift payment) are all fine by me. Yell if I've missed anything out or you want to know more.

    Cheers,

    Gary

Oh memories, this was my first watch I really had to work for...400 Deutschmarks some 20 years ago, to bad I sold mine.

So if next week friday you guys take dry bread and water for breakfast maybe agent orange can make me a good price ...so how much is a loaf of bread, a glass of soda and a couple of drinking straws?

...seriously, is the watch still receiving the time signal, not sure if you can check. Problem with mine was the antenna broke 2 times.

Sorry for the slow reply, I forgot I was selling this one . To answer your question, yes it's still receiving the timing signal. I re-calibrated it and checked it against another radio signal controlled watch and it's absolutely in sync with it.

    Cheers,

    Gary
