Cooper: Salah in Egypt like Messi in Argentina

Egyptian football coach Hector Cuper said the importance of Mohamed Salah in his team is no less important than Lionel Messi's for Argentina after scoring a goal during a 2-1 loss to Portugal on Friday for the World Cup.
Salah, the Liverpool striker and English Premier League forward, put Egypt ahead and then came out in the second half before Cristiano Ronaldo scored two successive goals for the Champions in stoppage time.
"Salah's importance to Egypt is like Messi's," Cooper told a news conference. He's a great player and he's supported by an entire team. "
"I took Salah out in the last 10 minutes because we wanted to test other players and I think Salah if he kept on the pitch Portugal would have scored and the result would have changed," he said.
"I think it's a good game and we wanted to get to know our level and unfortunately we lost in the last two minutes in stoppage time," he said.
"It was an important match for the European champions and away from the result we benefited a lot from it because it is the first step in the way to prepare for the World Cup."
Egypt will play Greece next Tuesday.
Egypt, which returned to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, competed in Group A with host Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
Portugal face Spain, Morocco and Iran in the second set.
