Great work, Dave, and fabulous research and information. We'll have to list you with the National Trust, or something, for services to the BBC and WISdom.

Default I no longer need my BBC Lemania Chronograph

    Hi,

I've had my BBC Lemania Chronograph ever since I worked for the BBC TV
in the 1970's. It has been a very useful tool for me ever since. I'm now living in Perth, Australia.

But now with the stopwatch function and timecode calculator on my iPhone I no longer use it so I thought I might as well put it on the market.

It's in pristine condition as I've always kept it in its original black plastic box.

What do you think it's worth today? Should I try selling it through ebay.

    Hi Ray
Lovely stopwatch, and great to see one surface from an original user.
The value of these is very subjective and over a broad range.
You see examples advertised in Italy (don't know why, but Italy especially) at ridiculous prices up to (and over) 1000.
I have seen examples fetch just over 300 on Ebay.
However, most seem to go in the 150-200 range.
I would add that you have the box, and most of the ones I have seen did not. Is the box signed at all (BBC or Lemania)?

It is probably the place to sell it. Be sure to mention BBC, Nero and Lemania in the title, and make the listing a long one (not just 7 days) so that all of your prospective audience have time to spot the listing.

And be prepared to accept offers, if they are what you would consider high enough.

You may get a message or two as a result of this post too. You never know.

    Good Luck
    Dave

Thanks Dave. I'll probably list it on ebay sometime in the new year.

    Hi,

I've now put it up on Ebay for $500 - with free airmail postage from Australia - which is probably a fair value as it has hardly a scratch on it as it's always been stored in its 'red velvet' box.

For those interested it is item 330853799277
Note that the box has an issue date of May 1974, our first definitive dating information, but which correlates with our thoughts so far.

    Morning all,

I appreciate that this is an 'old' thread but I thought you may all be interested in a watch I picked up at a market across the weekend. It appears to be another Pierce chronograph with a BBC dial (In this case no.181).

I didn't know anything about the watch when I picked it up so my knowledge to date is based purely on the information you have already posted. It's in really nice condition although it isn't working and I suspect has been overwound.

I'm probably going to look into getting it up and running as I do enjoy wearing 'interesting' vintage watches although I understand from posts elsewhere that these chronographs are not the easiest to work on (?) It'll end up being sent to my watchmaker but any advice welcome on whether you feel this is a worthwhile exercise!

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi there, and welcome.
It is an old thread, yes, but it does get maintenance, as I keep discovering new ones to add to the list.
    Like yours.
What a great find, it is in admirably lovely condition (in terms of case dial and hands), and does well to corroborate the original Pierce one found by Foilguy in post #4 of this thread.
    I shall let him know.
Do get it fixed up, it will be a great little watch when done.
    Thanks for posting.
