Pocket Watch Conversions... is it allowed now....Breguet content

these conversions have been around a long time now..... when I was first collecting on the Internet I noticed lots of pockets without cases for sale on Ebay... I discussed this with a number of US watch people and they remembered that during the 80's 'Gold' spike lots of Pocket Gold cases were melted down and sold for scrap obviously leaving these movements without cases.... so what I am asking is.... should it be ok to revive these interesting old pieces by converting them..... thoughts people..?

Breguet Moonphase chronograph in giant purpose made steel case, converted pocket to giant wristwatch, 59mm x 72mm to lug tips, Swiss patent number +13244 on front plate referring to Barbezot-Baillot's design for push-repeating mechanism. The case has full exhibition back beneath giant flat crystal, and makes for a great presentation of the hunting mvt in wrist form, albeit incredibly heavy at nearly 7 oz troy. CONDITION: GRO, fine mvt condition with oxide microspeckle to steel components, good chronograph and calendar functions, good repeat functions; dial with edge flake into chapter at2:30. other lesser edge roughness; hands painted for contrast but with a few tiny chips; case and strap like new.

Hi Mate, I hope you're all good.
For me the yes is the answer.
As long as they are done well & respect the original creation to a degree, I have seen some horrendous skeletonised monsters.
Back in the 90's the majority were shocking, with tiny 12mm soldered lugs on a 55mm case etc...trying to blag an aviation history.

Now they are being cased in custom made cases that are more or less average modern watch size (oversized), I think they are credible.
Especially when you think something like this will probably sell for around £3 grand give or take & a genuine Breguet made repeater wristwatch would be what £60 grand plus??
A great way to own a top end watch for very little money (loosely speaking).

yes agreed @Spark... it is a shame that those great movements would end up sitting in a draw and yes leave the rubbish alone but something like this is a beauty and as you say 'hi end' but even some of the plainer clean looking pockets would be a nice thing to own... just as long as the internal re case works properly... no shock protection should mean rubber gaskets to protect the movement... not sure I have seen the spec on doing it properly... I was asked by a Brand client to source some cases for some Jaeger pockets but couldn't find someone who does it properly... anyone seen anyone on the net offering ?
