Thumbs down The WORST Modern Re Issues - POST THEM HERE!

I'd like to create a list of the best and with this post the worst modern re issues in the watch market these days. I don't want to get into geeky detail about re release date accuracies.. its the aesthetics of the pieces I am interested in... not their faithful accuracy to the original as some re issues I think are better than the vintage.

I've been involved with vintage watches, collecting and selling since what I would consider was one of the first modern 'Re Issues' so I will start things here... and in no particular order.

    The Worst Re Issues

    Eterna Heritage military 1939-41-46
Well you only have to get one thing right with this... make the lume aged, bright lime green ruins it completely, crossed swords stamp on lug would have been a nice touch, full polished? Half arsed if you ask me... any other men?

One thing about the Eterna you forgot the original had no Date so the date on this one makes it look stupid.

At least they didn't put the date on a diagonal at 4:30...

    Tudor Black Bay

Not the best as it is a mixture of several Tudor Vintage watches... Tudor Rose Sub, non crown guard Sub and the Snow Flake Sub.... in itself it is an ok watch but not quite the same as the original of any model....

    TAG Autavia
One of the first Re Issues they have gotten much better at remaking watches from their archive now but this wasn't their finest moment from the late 90's

    i don't agree:

i've always seen this as a modern interpretation of the original, and as such it's quite ok, i think. nice case, nice dial, nice bracelet, nice colors, even the pushers are ok for me. maybe they could have added a small rectanlge 'around' the date window. and bringing the crown to the left maybe wasn't easy with a movement which wasn't made for this (i think thats the reason for the reversed arrangement of the subdials)

i mean: a 1:0.98 copy is something different.

Just about anything based on the B-Uhr pattern. So many of them, and so few of interest (apart from the distressed Laco model).
Your bleeding-edge Now is always someone else’s past. Someone else’s ’70s bellbottoms. Grasp that and start to attain atemporality.

I don't think this is particularly ugly, in fact in some ways quite a good one, but what struck me was that they've made a Skipper - the main point of which was that it had a 'regatta' function, i.e. had a count down feature in 5min zones, here's the original original:

The WORST Modern Re Issues - POST THEM HERE!-vintage_heuer_skipper-jpg

The (limited) reissue below is a bit of a Skipper / 45 Dato mash-up, but when you look at the minute chrono...:

The WORST Modern Re Issues - POST THEM HERE!-heuerskipper-orange-jpg

...it's a regular 30min count up chrono, not even split into 5min chunks and not even minute hash marks...!

I don't know, it looks OK, but for the price of a large G&T they could have printed a count down scale instead and put a different gear in so it functions as a regatta rather than just being a normal chrono with some fancy paint (which doesn't serve any purpose!).

Maybe I'm getting fussy in my old age.

yes, looks quite nice, but right, the chrono isn't a skipper.

    You're right, it is ridiculous.
However, what is more ridiculous is that they actually use the line

"10 minute countdowns are a common feature of many modern regattas"

    which is rubbish

If it's Lemania-powered, I'm interested. Tool Chrono - interested. Dive Chrono - interested. Interesting - interested
