    Default 1969 Speedmaster for sale

    NOW SOLD - THANKS ALISTAIR

The time has come to let this 1969 Speedmaster go to pay for an impulse buy.

This one is in great condition and is supplied with a recent service and with the option of a vintage 1171 bracelet.

With the 40th anniversary of the moon landings this July, this has got to be the vintage watch of the year. This is an all original Omega Speedmaster Professional from 1969 featuring the rare Seahorse caseback and none of the later NASA engraving.
If you are looking for a vintage Moonwatch, here is a quick guide on what this one has and what to look for.

Dial – rare tritium stepped dial in near perfect condition with painted Omega logo and take a close look at the “R” on the end of the word Speedmaster. Original dials have a long stylised “R” whereas later dials and service replacements had a short-tailed “R”. Take a look at the pictures and compare with later Speedmasters and you’ll see what I mean. The stepped dial (step down to the minute track) was only in production for a short while on cal 861's and Omega switched to a gradual slope in the early 70’s.

Caseback – Traditional seahorse / hippocampus engraving on the back and no mention of NASA or flight qualification etc. The back is worn from 40 years of use but the hippocampus is still visible, there is also a scratch on the crown side, see pics. Also, the inside is engraved with the model number 145.022 69 with “69” being the year of production. There has been much debate regarding which model actually went to the moon but this is a real example of a watch in production when Mr Armstrong and his crew took their historic trip.

Case / movement - Original and in good condition, the cal 861 movement runs well and the chronograph features all work as they should having recently been serviced by an Omega approved watchmaker – remainder of service guarantee supplied.
The bezel shows little sign of fading and features the rare “225-220-190” markings (this was actually a mistake made by Omega and later models read “225-200-190”).The crown and pushers are original and in good condition.
I’m selling this as a vintage piece so please don’t expect it to be perfect although it is in remarkable shape considering it’s age. No box or papers.

For sale in the UK only for 1850 (or 1750 excluding the bracelet). Payment by bank transfer or cash if you want to meet me in the South West. Price includes insured RMSD.
Enjoy the pictures, I’m not a great photographer but please ask if you need any more pics or info.

    Cheers - Simon - watch@managementor.co.uk

Notice the stepped edge to the dial only seen on older cal 321s and early cal 861s.
The long tailed "R" on Speedmaster was on original dials. Service replacements can be spotted by the shorter "R"
    145.044 69 - That's 1969!

Inspection can be arranged in the South West.
